Senator Robbins Hosts Student Government Forum
Attendees develop and vote on legislation during
"legislative session"
Students from a number of secondary schools across the 50th Senatorial
District received a first-hand look at legislative and state government
operations during a seminar hosted by state Senator Bob Robbins (R-50).
A total of 88 students from 14 schools participated in Senator Robbins'
Student Government Seminar held in the Howard Miller Student Center at Thiel
College.
The students interacted with students from other high schools while
developing legislation during morning "committee meetings" and voting on it
during the afternoon "full session" as they served as members of the Senate.
"Every citizen should understand how government works if a democracy is to be
successful. I hope that through this forum the students receive a better
understanding of its ins and outs," Senator Robbins said.
"Civics and government are participation sports," Senator Robbins added. "I
stressed that every citizens is a part of government at every level, from the
local community council all the whole way up to Congress and the White House.
The decisions made by government affect the ways we live and we have a right and
a responsibility to help shape those decisions."
