FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Sen. Robbins Hails Fed Rejection of I-80 Tolling ProposalDecision spares local economy, commuters State Senator Bob Robbins (R-50) today hailed Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood's rejection of the proposed tolling of Interstate 80. "I am extremely pleased by the Federal decision against the proposed tolling of Interstate 80. I voted against Act 44 when it came before the Senate and I have strongly opposed this proposal right from the beginning. I was pleased to join with my colleagues to actively and unequivocally oppose the tolling proposal in a letter we sent to Secretary LaHood last November," Senator Robbins said. "In December I joined other members of the Pennsylvania legislature to travel to Washington, D.C. to meet with members of the Federal Highway Administration where we clearly expressed our concerns about the significant economic consequences tolling I-80 would have had on our state's businesses and residents. We also raised our concerns about the considerable amount of debt the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission would have incurred if the tolling proposal were approved. I am gratified that the federal government agreed that there were simply too many financial, administrative and quality of life issues that were unresolved." Contact: |
