FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Robbins, Roae Announce PA Conservation Works GrantsMeadville receives $250,000, Saegertown receives $37,000 The City of Meadville and Borough of Saegertown will receive Pennsylvania Conservation Works grants from the state Department of Environmental Protection, according to Senator Bob Robbins and Representative Brad Roae. Meadville will use a $250,000 grant to upgrade the HVAC and lighting systems at the Meadville City Building. HVAC improvements will consist of the replacement of the original boiler and chiller systems with high efficiency equipment. Lighting improvements involve the re-ballasting and re-lamping of existing lighting fixtures and the installation of state of the art motion detectors/sensors. "These improvements will result in significant reductions in the usage of natural gas and electricity in the building," Senator Robbins said. "Overall, the city expects to save nearly $24,000 in energy costs each year." Saegertown will use a $37,000 grant to replace two of its oldest turbine water well pumps with submersible ones. The borough's continued ability to provide process and cooling water to local manufacturing facilities is imperative to maintaining and increasing the nearly 1000 manufacturing jobs it currently supports. "In addition to the benefits this upgrade will provide to the local economy, this project will also reduce energy consumption resulting in an estimate savings of $8,600 annually," Representative Roae said.
