FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Senate Sends Responsible Budget Package to HouseSenate Bill 1085 reduces state spending, avoids broad-based tax increase The Senate today approved and sent to the House of Representatives a budget package that reduces state spending and maintains state services and programs without a broad-based tax increase, according to Senator Bob Robbins (R-50). "The budget we approved today certainly isn't perfect, but it represents the best compromise that can be reached," Senator Robbins said. "This has been a very difficult process and I commend the Senate leadership for their efforts to develop this budget and close the impasse. It is particularly notable that this represents the first budget under the Rendell Administration where state spending is being reduced from the previous year." Senate Bill 1085 sets general fund spending at $27.85 billion – more than $1 billion less than the Governor's initial budget request and $432 million less than the approved 2008-09 budget total of $28.267 billion.
