Crawford County Projects Receive $10 Million in Grants

Cambridge Area, Linesville Pine joint authorities receive H20 PA funding

The Cambridge Are Joint Municipal Authority and the Linesville Pine Joint Municipal Authority in Crawford County are among a select number of recipients of highly competitive H2O PA grants, according to Senator Bob Robbins (R-50).

Each authority will receive a $5 million grant from the program.

"All told the Commonwealth Financing Authority received more than 700 applications, totaling $2.6 billion, for the $800 million available in H2O PA funding," Senator Robbins said. The competition for the funding was fierce and Cambridge and Linesville Pine were extremely fortunate to receive these substantial grants."

The Cambridge Area Joint Authority will apply the grant for wastewater treatment upgrades including constructing a new wastewater treatment plant, upgrading an existing wastewater treatment plant, upgrading an existing sewage pumping station, and replacement of deficient sanitary sewers within Cambridge Springs Borough.

The Linesville Pine Joint Municipal Authority will apply the grant toward a regional sewage facilities project to serve Linesville Borough and Pine Township.  The project is necessary to provide problem resolution for the high rate of malfunctioning on-lot systems in Pine Township and hydraulic and organic overload conditions and NPDES permit violations at the existing Linesville Borough Sewage Treatment Plant.

H2O PA was created under Act 63 of 2008 to fund water and sewer projects, as well as storm water projects, flood control projects, and high-hazard dam repairs. The funding is provided through an $800 million bond financed by five percent of gaming revenue deposited in the Pennsylvania Gaming Economic Development and Tourism Fund.

To be eligible for funding, a project must be owned by a municipality or authority, and must include local matching funds. The Commonwealth Financing Authority will evaluate applications, with the Department of Environmental Protection and the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority providing technical review and assistance.
