FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Senator Robbins Resolution Honors Vietnam VeteransSenate adopts Senate Resolution 40 The Senate today adopted Senate Resolution 40, a measure introduced by Senator Bob Robbins (R-50) designating March 30, 2009, as "Vietnam Veterans Day" in Pennsylvania and May 25, 2009, as "Fallen Heroes of the Vietnam War Day" in Pennsylvania. "Nearly 40 years have passed since America's involvement in Vietnam ended and yet that conflict continues to impact our society. Vietnam, like Korea before it, is a conflict that had no clean resolution for our nation or for the men and women who served in them," Senator Robbins said. "Senate Resolution 40 sets aside one day to honor and commemorate every Pennsylvanian who served in Vietnam and recognize them for their fidelity and sacrifice." Senator Robbins continued. "It also designates Memorial Day 2009 as a time to pay tribute to those men and women who gave their lives in the line of duty during the Vietnam War." Among the 58, 256 names on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial are 3,142 Pennsylvanians. These native sons who gave their lives in the line of duty in Vietnam include 1,870 Army casualties, 152 Navy casualties, 148 Air Force casualties and 972 Marine casualties. Contact: |
