Duferco Farrell Corp Nets $721,700 Grant

Mercer Co. firm receives state Rail Freight Assistance Program funds

Duferco Farrell Corporation, located in the Shenango Valley, Mercer County will receive a $721,700 state grant to rehab and upgrade yard track within the plant facilities, according to state Senator Bob Robbins (R-50).

The grant to Duferco Farrell was approved Thursday (December 11) by the 15-member State Transportation Commission, Senator Robbins said. The funding is coming from the Bureau of Rail Freight’s 2008 Rail Transportation Assistance Program and 2009 Rail Freight Assistance Program.

"This is great news for our region," Senator Robbins said. "Duferco Farrell is one of our larger employers in Mercer County and this state funding will help them make important facility improvement. These upgrades should further facilitate the transportation of raw materials into the plant, which will help the company remain competitive into the future."
