Summit Twp. VFD Receives $30,000 Grant

Senator Robbins secures funding for safety equipment

The Summit Township Volunteer Fire Department will receive a $30,000 Community Revitalization state grant to purchase safety and rescue equipment for its new truck, according to state Senator Bob Robbins (R-50).

Senator Robbins was able to secure the funding for the volunteer fire department, which expects to receive its new truck in December. The state grant will go toward the purchase of a $15,000 thermal imaging camera that will assist in search and rescue operations.

"Minutes are precious when someone is trapped. The thermal imaging camera helps emergency responders in their rescue efforts, which certainly can mean the difference between life and death in a crisis," Senator Robbins said.

The rest of the grant money will go toward the purchase of fire suppressing foam and accessories for the truck's foam delivery system, a rescue saw, and highway traffic warning signs for use at fires and motor vehicle accident scenes.

"I am extremely pleased to support the Summit Township Volunteer Fire Department in its efforts to better serve and protect the people of the community," Senator Robbins said. "As the Vice Chairman of the Senate Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee, I know the important role that volunteer fire departments play in our communities. This grant will help Summit Township VFD secure important equipment to save lives and protect property."

The state Community Revitalization grants are designed to support projects that promote community improvement, public safety and job creation.   The Community Revitalization program is administered by the Department of Community and Economic Development.
