Robbins Announces $60,000 in Lawrence County and Butler County Community Revitalization Grants

Harrisburg – State Sen. Bob Robbins (R-50) today announced the approval of $60,000 in state grants to assist several community projects in Lawrence and Butler Counties.

"I am always pleased when I can work with local communities and organizations to bring state dollars back to Lawrence and Butler County communities," said Robbins. 

Robbins announced the following Community Revitalization Program grants:

  • Department of Veterans’ Affairs of Lawrence County -- $10,000 to assist the department purchase a copy machine and computer equipment. These pieces of equipment will assist the Lawrence County Veterans Affairs office with the processing of VA claims more efficiently for veterans of Lawrence County.
  • New Wilmington Borough -- $6,000 to assist with improvements to the athletic fields in the borough.
  • Volant Borough -- $15,000. These funds will be used by the borough to bring the borough building up to the accessibility standards required under state and federal law.
  • Volant Volunteer Fire Department -- $12,000 to assist with the cost of rebuilding the motor of their 1987 FMC pumper truck, which blew up on the way to a motor vehicle accident. Currently the Volant VFD relies on surrounding communities for water delivery during fire emergencies.
  • Worth Township, Butler County -- $17,000 to assist the township make needed repairs to the municipal building. The building was formerly a grange hall built in 1927 and was acquired by the township in 2003 and converted into a municipal building. It is currently being used for township meetings, agricultural group meetings, and as a voting location.  Improvements will be made to the restroom facilities and upgrades to the building itself to remove the architectural barriers which restrict accessibility of elderly and handicapped persons.

"These projects include not just state dollars, but a significant local contribution as well," said Robbins.  "I commend these organizations for putting together strong grant applications, and I am gratified that I could help secure state assistance."

The Community Revitalization Grant program is administered by the state Department of Community and Economic Development.
