Robbins Disappointed with Governor's Veto of Legislation Designed to Protect Small Business

Harrisburg – State Senator Bob Robbins (R-50) today expressed disappointment that Governor Rendell vetoed legislation designed to protect small business.

Modeled after the federal Regulatory Flexibility Act, House Bill 236 would have simply required state bureaucracies to consider the impact of proposed regulations on small businesses. This measure is a part of a package designed to re-establish Pennsylvania as a competitor for jobs and job opportunities.

Senator Robbins, a cosponsor of the Senate version (Senate Bill 842), stated, "I am extremely disappointed with today's decision by the Governor. Small businesses are a vital component of our economy and need their voice heard by state government."

The Governor's veto message stated that "not one group supporting the passage of this legislation" took the Governor's Office up on their offer to meet.

"This is simply untrue," said Robbins. "My office tried on several occasions to meet with the Governor's Office on this legislation, but to no avail. The last thing government should be doing is throwing roadblocks in front of the very businesses that drive the economy and create most of our jobs."
