FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Ballot Question Proposes "Persian Gulf Conflict Veterans' Compensation Fund"Voters to decide whether to compensate Gulf War vets in Nov. 7 ballot question. Harrisburg – A question will appear on the November 7 ballot asking voters whether to establish a state fund to compensate veterans of the Persian Gulf War for their service, according to state Senator Bob Robbins (R-50). The ballot question asks voters if the Commonwealth should borrow $20 million to create the fund for veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces who served in the 1990-91 Persian Gulf Conflict while residents of Pennsylvania. The question will read:
Act 29 of 2006, which put the question on the ballot, authorizes the Pennsylvania Adjutant General to create rules and procedures for administering payments from the compensation fund. "This is a chance for voters to make their voice heard on an important topic," said Robbins. "I encourage citizens to exercise their right to weigh in on this ballot question. In the past Pennsylvanian's have approved compensation for veterans of the past conflicts such as; World War I, World War II, Korean War and the Vietnam War." CONTACT: Mike Hengst
