FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Robbins Hosts High School Student Government SeminarStudents Act as "Senators" for a Day Greenville - State government came alive for approximately 100 high school students in Pennsylvania's 50th Senatorial District during a seminar sponsored by Senator Bob Robbins. Sen. Robbins' annual Student Government Seminar was held on October 6th at Thiel College for high school students in Butler, Crawford, Lawrence, and Mercer counties. "I would like to thank all the students who participated in this year's event," said Sen. Robbins. "It truly is a joy watching students as they become engaged in the legislative process -- interacting with state officials, participating in committee meetings, and debating legislation." The seminar featured a keynote speech by the Secretary of the Commonwealth, Pedro Cortés, who talked about his role in overseeing the electoral process and encouraged students to participate in our democracy. Also participating were Representatives John Evans (R-5) and Dick Stevenson (R-8), Mercer County Commissioner Michele Brooks, and the Secretary of the Senate, Mark Corrigan -- who guided Katie Gerard, a senior at Cambridge Springs High School, in her role as the "Lieutenant Governor," the presiding officer of the Senate. "I believe hands-on leaning experiences like this really make a difference for students as they engage in the legislative process," said Robbins. "It is important that they recognize how their participation in government will shape the course of Pennsylvania in the years to come." CONTACT: Nathan Silcox
