Robbins Elected Chairman of Pennsylvania Local Government Commission

Harrisburg – Today, Senator Bob Robbins (R-50) was elected Chairman of the Pennsylvania Local Government Commission -- a bipartisan state commission that specializes in providing research and making recommendations to the General Assembly on issues affecting municipalities.

Robbins has been a member of the Commission since 1994 and its Chairman from 1995 to 2001. "My involvement with the Local Government Commission has been one of the highlights of my service in the General Assembly," said Sen. Robbins. "The Commission is an invaluable resource to the members of the General Assembly as well as local officials. The staff of the Commission provides timely and non-biased information to legislators on issues that are important to local officials. I am honored to once again lead the Commission."

Senator Robbins also serves on the Senate Local Government Committee. The Senator has worked on many key local government initiatives during his career. In 1996, as Chairman of the Committee, he shepherded through the legislative process the merger of the Departments of Community Affairs and Commerce. He was instrumental in the creation of the Center for Local Government Services, providing local officials with a one-stop shop for answers on local government issues.

Senator Robbins fills the vacancy left by former Chairman, Senator Robert J. Thompson, who passed away in January.
