Robbins Announces $200,000 in Mercer County Community Revitalization Grants

Harrisburg – State Sen. Bob Robbins (R-50) today announced the approval of $200,000 in state grants to assist several community projects throughout Mercer County.

"I am always pleased when I can use my position in Senate leadership to bring state dollars back to Mercer County communities," said Robbins.  "These funds will assist a variety of area projects aimed at creating jobs, expanding recreational opportunities, providing housing assistance to the needy, and more."

Robbins announced the following Community Revitalization Program grants:

  • Community Action Partnership of Mercer Co. -- $50,000 to provide housing counseling aimed at moving area families into home ownership.
  • Community Food Warehouse of the Shenango Valley -- $5,000 to help expand storage capacity and increase distribution from the Farrell facility, which serves as the Mercer County food bank.
  • Greene Township -- $20,000 to complete work on an addition to the township municipal building. The addition currently has no cement floor, electrical service or finished interior.
  • Greenville Area Economic Development Corp. -- $25,000 to assist in architectural rendering for a planned downtown teaching clinic for surgeons using neurological medical devices. Also, for upgrades to McNeilly Business Center and Enterprise Center.
  • Greenville-Reynolds Development Corp. -- $40,000 to complete replacement of wetlands in Reynolds North business park. The work will allow GRDC to resume developing properties for job creation.
  • Mercer County Regional Council of Governments -- $35,000 to purchase a snow plow for emergency snow removal, to be used jointly by Sharon, Farrell and Wheatland Borough.
  • Shenango Valley Industrial Development Corp. -- $15,000 to assist in environmental remediation at the Broadway North Industrial Park in Sharon, as required by agreement with state Department of Environmental Protection.
  • West Middlesex Area School District -- $10,000 to complete a half-mile, outdoor walking/running trail and fitness course for use by students and citizens of West Middlesex, Shenango Township and Lackawannock Township.

The Community Revitalization Grant program is administered by the state Department of Community and Economic Development.

"These projects include not just state dollars, but a significant local contribution as well," said Robbins.  "I commend these local organizations for putting together strong grant applications, and I am gratified that I could help secure this state assistance."
