Robbins Announces Crawford County Hazardous Waste Grant, Energy Efficiency Grant

Harrisburg – State Sen. Bob Robbins (R-50) today announced the awarding of two state grants aimed at reducing hazardous waste and improving energy efficiency in Crawford County.

Robbins said the Crawford County Solid Waste Authority will receive a $19,156 grant from the state Department of Environmental Protection. The funds will be used to reimburse the authority for half of the costs of carrying out household hazardous waste collection.

"It's important to help county citizens get hazardous waste out of their homes and disposed of properly," said Robbins.  "By splitting the cost with the state, the authority can afford to hold hazardous waste collection events."

Robbins also announced the approval of a state grant to help a Crawford County small business cut costs, save energy and reduce pollution.

The senator said Szymanski Coin Laundry in Cambridge Springs is being awarded a $7,439 Small Business Advantage grant to purchase and install new high-efficiency washing machines to conserve energy and water and decrease the amount of wastewater produced.

"Businesses in our region and throughout the commonwealth have to use the latest technology to reduce waste and improve efficiency.  Small businesses are a vital to job creation, and these grants will help make our small businesses more competitive and efficient," said Robbins.

Robbins said the Small Business Advantage Grant Program provides small businesses with grants to cover half of the project costs, up to $7,500. Funding is available to small businesses that install energy efficient or pollution prevention equipment or adopt processes that: reduce energy consumption, reduce or reuse raw materials on-site, or reduce the production of waste.
