FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Funds Released for Linesville Spillway, Lawmakers AnnounceHARRISBURG – Money for improvements to the Linesville Spillway at Pymatuning State Park have been released by the Governor's Budget Office with construction expected this summer, local lawmakers Sen. Bob Robbins (R-50), Rep. John Evans (R-5) and Rep. Rod Wilt (R-17) announced today. "I am very pleased that the governor released this money. This spillway is one of the most visited facilities in the Commonwealth and this upgrade will enhance tourism, which is vital to the economy of the Pymatuning region," Robbins said. "The decision by the Governor's Budget Office to release the funds for the Linesville Spillway is welcome news to those who live near and use Pymatuning State Park," Evans said. "Our state parks are a valuable resource and we need to make sure their facilities are up-to-date and safe for all who use them." Funds for the $2.4 million project were authorized by the Legislature in 1997. Although funding for capital budget projects may be authorized during a specific year, the governor's office has discretion on when to release the funds. All capital budget items are funded through state bonds. "The park is an excellent outlet for tourism, fishing, boating and various other activities in our area. With this money, the Linesville Spillway will receive the improvements needed to strengthen its appeal to nature enthusiasts, campers and others who enjoy taking advantage of what the state park has to offer," Wilt said. Improvements to the spillway will include new water and sewer lines, comfort facilities, a concession stand, a fixed pier, walkways, fencing and guide rail. The project is now with the state's Department of General Services for design work and advertisements for bids are expected to be ready for later this spring. Construction is expected to start mid-summer. |
