Robbins: Grant Will Support Local Rail Project, Jobs

Harrisburg – State Senator Bob Robbins (R-50) today announced the awarding of two Rail Freight Assistance Program (RFAP) grants to Oil Creek and Titusville Lines, Inc. and the Titusville Redevelopment Authority.

Robbins said Oil Creek and Titusville Lines will receive $87,990 and the Titusville Redevelopment Authority will receive $140,084. The improvements funded by the grants will help create two new jobs and maintain 856 jobs, stimulating economic growth, and better utilizing rail lines as a means for transporting goods.

"Railways are an efficient, viable method of transporting goods and have for years supported job creation in our region," said Robbins. "These grants will help keep local employers competitive in the market."

This year, the RFAP awarded $7.4 million in state funding to 40 of the more than 90 projects that competed for financial assistance from the state, Robbins said.

The Rail Freight Assistance Program is administered by the state Department of Transportation. The grants are part of the Commonwealth's effort to improve the overall transportation system, with a focus on meeting the "just in time" requirements of shippers and receivers.
