Robbins: State Grant Will Allow Precision Manufacturing Institute, Edinboro University to Collaborate on Manufacturing Engineering Degree Programs

Harrisburg – State Senator Bob Robbins (R-50) today announced a state grant to launch a new manufacturing engineering degree program to benefit Meadville area students.

Robbins said Precision Manufacturing Institute (PMI) has been awarded a $97,668 grant to provide educational services in collaboration with Edinboro University for Associate and Bachelor degree programs in Manufacturing Engineering Technology. PMI and the University will establish a new education facility to be used by both and shared with Meadville CareerLink.

"I have long been committed to expanding higher educational opportunities in Crawford County, particularly those that benefit the tool and die industry," said Robbins. "This grant will create new Associate and Bachelor degree programs in Manufacturing Engineering, and will connect graduates to local employers through Meadville CareerLink."

CareerLink is an Internet-based system of services bringing together employers and job seekers, supported by a network of professionally staffed offices across Pennsylvania.

Robbins said the grant was awarded through the Community College Services Expansion program. The grants are awarded for the implementation of community college programming and education services within local workforce investment areas with priority given to underserved areas of the state.

"The tool and die industry has provided generations of Crawford County workers with well-paying jobs. This grant is part of the effort to keep those jobs available for the future by ensuring a skilled workforce that will retain employers and attract new businesses," said Robbins.
