Robbins Announce $540,544 in Crawford County Grants
Harrisburg – State Senator Bob Robbins (R-50) today announced the
awarding of two grants to Crawford County, one to support transitional
housing efforts in Meadville and another to continue weatherization
efforts in Crawford County.
Robbins said that Meadville's HOME program grant was approved in
the amount of $112,498. These funds will be used to purchase vacant
land for the construction of six dwelling units of transitional
housing. The grant will also cover program operation and tenant
support services for three years.
"Transitional housing is an important step in moving families from
subsidized housing to home ownership," said Robbins. "Healthy
communities need a strong base of home ownership for economic and
social stability."
HOME is a federally-funded program that provides local governments
with loan assistance and technical assistance to expand the supply of
decent and affordable housing for low-income Pennsylvanians.
The Northwest Pennsylvania Weatherization, Inc, will received a
$428,046 Weatherization Assistance Grant to continue weatherization
services in Crawford County. The Weatherization Assistance Program is
aimed at minimizing the adverse effects of high energy costs for
low-income residents. Without weatherization, such costs can result in
the loss of home heating service. The program prioritizes residents at
high risk, such as the elderly, individuals with disabilities, and
families with young children. "With the harsh weather we have been
experiencing this winter, proper weatherization of homes is critical,
especially when senior citizens and children are at risk," said
Robbins.
Both programs are administered by the state Department of Community
and Economic Development.
