FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Robbins, Brooks Announce Grant for Volant$30,000 will go for water system improvementsThe Borough of Volant will receive a $30,000 state grant to help cover the costs for a planned upgrade to its water system, State Senator Bob Robbins (R-50) and State Representative Michele Brooks (R-17) announced today. Volant will apply the grant toward the costs of upgrading and improving the water distribution system under Neshannock Creek and up the side of the hill to service residents on High and McCracken streets in the northwest section of the borough. "The current system in that area is seriously outdated and needs to be replaced," said Senator Robbins. "This grant will help ease the financial strain on the Volant community and lift some of the burden that otherwise would have to come from ratepayers." "This is a quality of life issue, said Representative Brooks. "There are serious health and safety problems that will be addressed by this project. Specifically, the existing water lines provide an inadequate amount of water to that neighborhood and simply are too small to provide adequate fire protection."
