Grove City Receives $4.5 Million in State Financing

PENNVEST Funding to help expand wastewater treatment plant

Grove City will receive $4.5 million in state financing to help cover the costs of expanding its wastewater treatment system, according to Senator Bob Robbins (R-50) and Representative Dick Stevenson (R-8).

The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) today approved a $4.5 million low-interest loan for the project, which will increase the average flow of the wastewater treatment plant from 3 million to 3.7 million gallons per day, add an additional holding pond and a larger sludge digester.

"I have strongly supported this project for some time," Senator Robbins said. "This sewage service expansion is essential to the community. Currently, the capacity limitation is a hurdle toward economic development and job creation in the area. The truth is the borough estimates that there are already 10 proposed projects -- with the expected creation of 550 to 750 new jobs -- that can move forward once the wastewater treatment plant expansion is completed."

"This is an important project for the community," said Representative Stevenson. "I am very pleased that PENNVEST approved this financing package.  The funding announced by PennVest will allow Grove City to move forward with its wastewater treatment plant upgrades, which will help improve the overall infrastructure in Grove City and surrounding communities. The plant upgrades, which will include an increase in capacity for more customers, will translate into better economic opportunities."

Grove City's expansion project is also strongly supported by Liberty Township, Pine Township, Springfield Township, and Wolf Creek Township

Senator Robbins and Representative Stevenson previously secured a $5 million PennWORKS loan for the expansion project.
